Ballinamere 0-16 Brosna Gaels 2-5
Ballinamere won their 4th Offaly Intermediate Hurling title following a comfortable five point victory over Brosna Gaels at Bord Na Móna O’Connor Pk this afternoon.
Ballinamere laid the foundation for this success in the first half, when playing with the wind, after which they led by six points 0-11 to 1-2. Brosna Gaels did get to within two points of the winners with 12 minutes to go, but Ballinamere pulled out that bit extra to prove worthy Champions.
Stephen Weir had the opening point of the game after just 60 seconds, but Brosna Gaels responded with a goal from Conor Quigley in the 4th minute. However, four in a row for Ballinamere, two from Paddy Murphy, put them 0-5 to 1-0 ahead after 13 minutes and they were never subsequently headed. Ballinamere continued to make use of the strong wind and with Paddy Murphy in fine form from frees and play led by six at the break.
On the resumption two pointed frees from Murphy stretched the advantage to eight by the 34th minute. Brosna Gaels gradually clawed their way back into the game and hit 1-3 without reply between the 38th and 48th minute to narrow the gap to two. The goal coming in the 42nd minute from substitute Fergal Daly. However, Murphy hit back with two pointed frees and Cormac Spollen finished out the scoring in the 59th minute to secure Ballinamere’s victory.
