Fogarty Goals guide Durrow to victory
Four goals from full forward Jack Fogarty were instrumental in Durrow winning the Tullamore Court Hotel, Senior B football final, in front of almost 2,000 spectators, at Bord na Móna O’Connor Pk this afternoon.
The early exchanges were evenly contested and Bracknagh led by 0-2 to 0-1, before Fogarty struck for the first of his goals in the 10th minute. Bracknagh responded with points from Emmett Geoghegan and Stephen Mather to level matters on 13 minutes. Durrow then hit a purple patch and five points without reply between the 15th and 21st minute to lead by 1-6 to 0-4. They had stretched that lead to six pints as half time approached, before Peter Cunningham scored a fantastic individual goal to leave just three between them at the break 1-8 to 1-5.
On the resumption Durrow’s Micheal Mooney kicked a point, before two goals in a minute from Fogarty had his side 10 points in front 3-9 to 1-5 after 35 minutes. The game was over as a contest on 41 minutes when Fogarty slotted home his and Durrow’s 4th goal to give them a 4-9 to 1-7 lead. In fairness to Bracknagh they never gave up and but for a penalty save by Joe Smith from Peter Cunningham in the 57th minute, the result would have been closer. Durrow were reduced to 14 men late in the game when Bobby O’Dea received his marching orders. Final score Durrow 4-10 Bracknagh 1-11
