On June 10th, pupils from primary schools across Offaly gathered in Gaelscoil an Eiscir Riada in Tullamore for the very first Scór na bPáistí in Co. Offaly. Organised by Offaly GAA’s Cultural Officer Niamh Clarke, the pupils gave outstanding performances across a range of disciplines. The highlight of the day was the tightly contested instrumental music competition that was of an exceptionally high standard. The audience was treated to other wonderful entertainment including figure dancing, solo singing, storytelling and ballad groups. The winners on the day were as follows:
Figure Dancing: Gaelscoil na Laochra
Solo Singing: St Philomena’s
Storytelling: St Philomena’s
Ballad Group: Gaelscoil an Eiscir Riada
Instrumental Music: Cloneygowan
The winners were presented with their medals by the adjudicator on the day, Sarah Cooke who has won numerous county, provincial and national titles in figure dancing for Birr GAA.
Schools will be notified again in the new school year about next year’s competition. Next up is Scór na nÓg which will commence in the autumn.
